This is an essential amino acid, it is an important functional component in many enzymes, in this way aiding the effective digestive process. L-Hisdine is used in fish for protein synthesis and to provide support for metabolic and immune function, growth and repair, protecting nerve cells, synthesis of white and red blood cells.

It is shown that L-histidine belongs to the most stimulatory for carp in cold water during winter time; <14 degrees Celsius.

It is found mainly in fish and benthic bottom-living aquatic organisms; larval forms and worms like bloodworm, tubifex etc.
