Pop up mix Plain
Ready to use milk protein based pop-up mix with egg compound, available in bright white, fluoro orange, fluoro pink and plain. As the fluoro mixes will give enhanced visibility, the plain mix will give a washed out appearance which could trigger very wary carp.
This mix is very easy rolling and has a great buoyancy. Ready baits will keep their buoyancy for at least 24 hours, are hard but still spongy and will release all attractors for a prolonged period.
It is possible to mix around 10-15% other dry ingredients/additives to make your own unique pop ups, preferably light ingredients / extracts like full fat GLM, liver powder, keramine, powdered flavours, sweetener, amino acids, crayfish meal, etc. Next to this you can use all kind of liquids, as long as they are not too heavy.
If very hard pop-ups are required we recommend to add around 5% egg albumen. Don't use bulk oils like hemp- and salmon oil in pop ups.
As this mix contains egg compound powder there is no need for eggs to work with this mix.
For use in hookbait / lures only, not for human/animal consumption.
see instructions below.
For producing wafters we recommend as a guideline to use around 2/3 (volume) basemix with 1/3 pop up mix. Example: 2 cups basemix and 1 cup pop-up mix.
Pop up mix general instructions:
1. Put the desired volume of water into a bowl and add your chosen flavours/liquids & preservative (around 15ml per 60ml liquids) and blend thoroughly. To start with use 50/100ml liquids with your first trials. Until some consistency is achieved with the mix, as anything it is a little trial and error to start with until you get used to this pop-up mix.
2. Add some powder to the liquids, mixing till a really thick soup like consistency is achieved.
3. Gradually add powder till a paste/dough like consistency is achieved whereby it almost doesn’t stick to your hands, and thus feel moist.
4. leave the dough ball in a plastic bag for around 30 minutes
5. Roll into the required size.
6. Bring a pan of water to the boil point and turn down slightly to a medium simmer is achieved, just under boiling point (important to reduce swelling).
7. Medium simmer times will vary slightly depending on size of bait you have rolled. We recommend 1.5 to 2.5 minutes, depending on size and quantity. Adding too many baits in one go may reduce the temperature of the boiling water, as a general guide around 20-30 baits will suffice in one go.
8. Once baits have been boiled, place on an absorbent towel or paper and allow to dry & cool.
9. Importantly, it depends on time of year as to how long your drying/airing times will be, winter times tend to take longer than during summer. Allow baits to dry thoroughly on a drying rack in a dry environment for approx 2 days in summer time and around 3-4 days in winter time, depending on temperature, humidity and ventilation.
