On the bank with Raymond – Insect Cream

Some baits simply have that special quality that sets them apart. The Insect Cream is one of those. It is a smooth and sweet boilie made with insect protein and built on a true HNV foundation. This bait performs on almost every type of water and shows its full potential when used alongside some prebaiting.

Strong in cold periods

I use the Insect Cream throughout the year, but it is my favourite choice in early spring and during the colder months. When the weather warms up, I like to combine it with the SLR range to create extra attraction through the different layers of the water.

What makes this bait stand out in winter is its soft profile and excellent digestibility. It takes very little effort for carp to eat and process it, which means they keep feeding for longer even when the water temperature drops. I have often seen that carp have to work hard with their gill covers to crush harder baits, which costs energy, and after a few attempts they give up. With the Insect Cream, the fish continue feeding because it requires less effort. The result is clear, more chance of the hookbait being taken and therefore a higher chance of a bite.

In cold weather, the boilies break down after about five to ten days, depending on the type of water. This makes it perfect for preparing a spot where you plan to fish for a longer period without the area becoming unfishable while prebaiting. The natural flow of the water will wash away any remaining particles, leaving no mouldy bait behind and keeping the swim clean and active.

Getting the most out of it

Because the Insect Cream is soft and absorbs moisture easily, it can sometimes take on the scent of the lakebed if used straight from the bag. To prevent that, I often soak the boilies for about an hour in surface water before using them. I sometimes add a little food liquid as well, as long as there are not too many other species such as bream present.

This short preparation makes a big difference. The bait releases more feeding signals and remains effective for much longer before the bottom smell starts to dominate. It becomes easier for the carp to detect, stimulates their feeding response and increases the chance that they eventually pick up the hookbait.

Hookbaits and attraction

When I fish over Insect Cream boilies that I have already boosted with food liquid, I always keep my hookbait neutral. My hard hookbait does not get dipped or coated with extra attractors. This approach reduces the chance of smaller species finding the bait first and increases the chance that the carp will pick up the hookbait.
